Yoga
means "union." This ancient art unites body-mind
and spirit into a whole of well-being, inner peace and the perfect
health which is every individual's birth right. The many benefits
of yoga extend beyond the physical and nutritional aspects of health
to encompass the emotional and spiritual benefits as well as combining
into a total program of health and healing. By practicing yoga's
postures (asanas) along with breath-work (pranayama),
students can develop not only flexibility but also strength &
endurance, building a sense of self-assurance and inner peace. Yoga
is not about strain, pain or competition. Yoga is about opening
the mind to speak gently, lovingly & non-judgmentally allowing
the body to release into the asanas, into yoga's poetry in
motion.

Yoga
students are encouraged to explore their
inner lives which can mean being aware of negative thoughts. For
as the renowned yoga teacher
Lilias Folan advises: "When such thoughts come
into your mind, trade them for new mantras
such as 'I am strong; my body is strong.' Don't
look to the right or left of you. You do your own
thing. You're perfect the way you are."
